What is Neuromuscular Massage Therapy?

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) is a thorough program of recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes which utilizes specific massage therapy, flexibility stretching, and home care to eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns. This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief will help to bring about balance between the musculoskeletal and the nervous system. NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles and biomechanics (movement) and it releases endorphins, the body’s own natural pain killers. It can be part of a comprehensive program complimenting all other health care modalities.

What is the benefit of Neuromuscular Massage Therapy?

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy fosters lasting relief from chronic muscular tension and pain. NMT can also help improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage therapy is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of wellbeing.

Yes. Please call me if you are interested in purchasing a gift certificate.

How should I prepare for my first appointment?

Please bring your completed client intake form to the first appointment. Together, we will review your health history and discuss your goals for treatment.

What happens in the first appointment?

After we review your health history, I will conduct a postural assessment then proceed with the massage. Your session ends with targeted self-care exercises for you to maintain the therapeutic benefits.

Must I be completely undressed?

Most massages are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped throughout your session.

What will the Neuromuscular Massage Therapy feel like?

You are likely to feel a range of sensations including some discomfort.  Pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate if you have any questions regarding the session or the particular technique you are receiving.

How will I feel after a Neuromuscular Massage Therapy session?

There may be some soreness after the initial sessions.  Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity that can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, personal check, and major credit cards for payment.  I also accept some Health Spending Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. I recommend that you check with your plan administrator to see if a doctor’s referral is required.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance.  I will gladly provide a simple receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

What if I am late to my appointment?

If you arrive late to your session, I will work with you during the remaining time. Please keep in mind that due to my appointment schedule, I may be unable to continue beyond your original time slot.
